Introduction

The Paul Poag Theatre is a 450 seat proscenium facility located at 746 South Main Street.  The Paul Poag Theatre is owned by the City of Del Rio.  Under the direction of Anne Wilson-De La Rosa, the theatre staff act as liaisons between the City of Del Rio, performers and host presenters.  The theatre staff is available to help with all aspects of the performance, please call or write for information or technical assistance.

Auditorium and lobby

The auditorium has a 347 seat orchestra level and a 103 seat balcony.  Additional seating for persons with disabilities is available.

The lobby area has a ticket booth and concession space.  Use of the concession area is restricted, please contact the director of the theatre for more information.  Items related to the performance, such as programs and T-shirts may be sold in the lobby with approval from the director and the organization hosting the event.  Space is very limited.  No more than one 8 foot banquet table or two 5 foot tables (available from PPT at no charge) may be placed in the lobby for the display of merchandise.

Load ins

The backstage area of the theatre is accessible to panel trucks and eighteen wheel trucks, via an alley.  Neighboring merchants are accommodating with respect to parking of trucks and buses.   Truck to stage path is as follows: loading dock, 18’ wide by 7’ deep and 10” high, with an overhead door, 12’ wide by 10’ high; workroom, 30’ long and 13’ clearance; overhead stage door, 12’ wide by 10’ high.  Trucks and buses may be parked for the day of the show, but trucks should be closed and locked when unattended.

Stage

The Paul Poag Theatre is a flat house.  The working area of the stage is 28’ wide by 26’ deep to the upstage black traveler.  This includes an apron thrust of 6’.  There is also 4’ of depth behind the upstage black traveler.  Modest SR and SL wings of 8’ wide by 17’ deep (Up to Down) increase the working width.

The proscenium opening is 26’6’’ wide by 17’ high.  Teasers limit the onstage clearance for sets to a conservative 14’ although taller pieces can sometimes be accommodated.  Four sets of drapes include: main drape at proscenium, a gold concert drape, 14 1/2’ from main, and two black travelers, one 8’ upstage from main drape and an upstage traveler which is 20' from the main drape.

Lighting

A 24 channel Teatronics manual slide dimmer board runs the theatrical lighting system.  Circuits are hard wired and dead hung.  There is a front of house position from the balcony rail with 6 circuits; two tree positions with six split circuits; and three batons on stage with 12 circuits.  The downstage pipe has 6 channels split SR and SL. Four split on the 2nd pipe, and 2 on the upstage pipe.

The board is basic, but has bumps, slides, A and B, X and Y.   Channels are limited to 20K.  A limited inventory of instruments can be hung per custom plot for load ins.  Par 64s, lekos- 6 X 6-22, and fresnels are available.  A current list of the approximately 50 instruments can be faxed on request.

Sound

A state of the art sound system is available to artists at the Paul Poag Theatre.  A Paul Poag Theatre sound tech must be on hand when the sound is utilized for any reason.  Other systems may be tied into house sound at the sole discretion of the PPT technician.  Only microphones may be used with other systems.  Under no circumstances, can equipment be separated from the house system to be used with other systems, including amplifiers, speakers or monitors.  Any modifications to the wiring of the house sound must be done by or with the aid of a PPT technician, and are at the sole discretion of the house sound technician.  The Paul Poag Theatre is renowned for its’ excellent acoustics.  The house sound system includes the following:

STEREO SOUND
24 X 4 channel Mackie board
Full range mid/hi, 18’’ sub lows  (stereo) two-way
RACK
  2 stereo EQ’s PA mix/monitor mix
  Stereo EFX (Alesis MicroVerb VI)
  2 BBE Sonic Maximizers
  Real time analyzer

  Tascam DAT Player
  Dual Cassette Deck
  Denon CD Player

The house sound system is simple but very efficient for all applications.  We have mounted line inputs, in three positions, 2-6 channels, SR and CS on apron, and 1-12 channel, SL (1/4 or XLR).  House speakers and monitors have been real time analyzed for maximum quality.  Studio speakers in the sound booth assure accurate mix.

House microphones include EV hand held,  (2) EV wireless, and various others.  Call for specific inventory, including mics, stands, etc.

Power can be tied in stage right wing.  There are at least two separate 15 amp circuits onstage which can be isolated for sound equipment.  A six-foot table and an aisle position on orchestra level can be provided for visiting equipment.  A one hundred foot snake is ample.  Amps are generally placed in the wing alcove, SR.
